We are a student-run initiative aiming to raise awareness around the world about human trafficking and slavery through an endurance type sports event that raises money for charity.
In late 2009, Youth Endurance Network founder Christopher Schrader conceived the idea of a 24 hour race.
In 2010, the first Running to Stop the Traffik - 24 Hour Race commenced and concluded with great success. 19 teams from 8 international schools in Hong Kong joined the 24 Hour Race, raising approx. USD 51,000. This was then donated to the Esther Benjamins Trust, whose aim is to prevent trafficking and slavery, as well as to help the children affected by human trafficking in Nepal.
In 2011, the EBT founder, Philip Holmes, came to Hong Kong to support the race. The event grew even larger, incorporating over 400 runners in 41 teams from 15 different schools. Over $600,000HK was raised for the Esther Benjamins Trust.
In 2012, the race returned to Hong Kong with a fundraising goal of $750,000HK with participation from 16+ schools.
In 2013, the race continued in Hong Kong while expanding to Singapore. It had a fundraising goal of HK $1,000,000 with the participation of 470 runners from 20 different schools.
This year, the 24 Hour Race is back and it’s BIGGER! For the first time, the race will be held in Hong Kong, Singapore, and Kuala Lumpur on November 15-16 from 9am - 9am. With a combined fundraising goal of HK $6,000,000 and over 1500 student runners, the dream continues as we we strive to become a global student-led force for endurance, promoting philanthropy through sport across many locations.
